Shield Mining Limited

Shield Mining Limited (SHX : ASX) is an Africa-focused gold and base metals explorer listed on the Australian Stock Exchange.

Shield currently holds ten Group 2 (gold and base metals) licences and three Group 4(uranium) licences, which cover a total area of 17,345km2 in Mauritania. 

In April, 2007 Shield signed a joint venture agreement on a 1383km2 copper/gold property (Saboussiri) in southern Mauritania for which it is the manager.

Following the discovery of a number of large gold in soil anomoloies on the Tijirit licence during the 2007-8 field season, Shield commenced in September, 2008 an infill soil sampling and trenching program that enhanced these anomolies and confirmed that the geology is similar to the Tasiast Gold Mine, 35km from Tijirit. A 5000 metre drilling programme has been planned for the first quarter of 2009.
